Affinity is currently looking for a Women's Health Medical Assistant to work from 8:00AM – 5:00PM, Monday through Friday.
*Job Summary: *The *Medical Assistant* (MA) provides basic and routine assistance of patient care delivery within their scope of practice and required certifications and in accordance with Affinity Health Group’s policies, practices and procedures and applicable regulations.
The MA will provide clinical and administrative support in a medical office under direction of Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Nursing Supervisors.
Job duties will vary depending on clinic location.
*Essential Duties & Responsibilities:* * Assists in the delivery of health care services to patients of diverse backgrounds and age and maintains positive relationships with patients and their families * Works effectively with fellow employees to ensure the efficient flow of patients throughout their visit, providing support to them as well as to the attending provider * Welcome patients and prepare them for health care visit * Place patient in exam room for provider evaluation, verify patient information and obtain medical history * Apply bandages, dressings and splints as ordered by the treating providerOperate autoclave machine in accordance with policy and procedures and complies with all regulatory requirementsMaintain and operate all clinical equipment, including calibration and record keeping in accordance with current policy and procedures * Participate in quality improvement, daily huddles, and other patient care programs established by clinic requirements (e.
g.
health coaching, motivational interviewing, screening for depression and substance abuse) * Provide clinical telephone triage / communication as defined by protocol or Physician instruction * Document patient care, observation, and activities according to professional standards and procedures * Complete required certifications; becomes proficient in clinic systems and procedures, and maintains currency in all policies, practices, and procedures * Keep all inventory records * Assist provider with patient assessment, examination, and treatments * Document patient care, observation, and activities according to professional standards and procedures * Maintain confidentiality regarding patient and business functions of the organization * Provide clinical triage * Administer medications according to the organization’s standards, polices, procedures, and/or guidelines.
* Maintain a clean, well-stocked patient care area and nursing area, observing asepsis techniques and all other federal mandates.

) * Obtain specimens (i.
e.
throat, urine, stool, wound, sputum, and other body fluids), using proper technique, and following policy and procedure for labeling * Assist in emergency situations under the direction of the provider * Route billing information as appropriate * Attend required in-service training (e.
g.
CPR, Safety, and Infection Control), staff meetings.
* Aid in identifying methods of improved patient care * Maintain current knowledge and skills in clinical practice including the required continuing education units, promoting professional growth * Compile, process, and maintain medical records of hospital and clinic patients in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements * Conduct patient outreach for outstanding labs, normal and abnormal test results * Coordinate and track outgoing referrals * Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of all patient health information data and abides by all HIPAA regulations * Keep detailed patient records such as prescriptions, treatment plans, test results, diagnoses, medical history, and description of symptoms in electronic medical records.
* Use Diagnosis Related Groups to group patients by diagnosis.
Assign a code to each different diagnosis and medical procedure * Possess an understanding of the payment procedures of health insurance firms, HMOs, and government programs such as Medicare/Medicaid * Perform basic medical procedures under the supervision of the provider (e.
g.
lab draws, dressing changes, immunizations, medical injections/administration, initiating and maintaining IV) * Float to other clinics as needed * Must have transportation to float to various clinics * Open communication with nursing supervisors is expected *Marginal Duties:* * Assist in surgery set up and injury care as directed by the treating provider * Assist in dispensing medications and appliances within scope of practice and as ordered by the treating provider and in accordance with state regulations * Perform front office clerical duties such as answering telephones, check-in, check-out, and record processing as needed * Assist with clerical activities related to appointment scheduling and patient intake, data verification, office communications, and filing of patient records * Prepare, assist, and accurately complete all forms and records *Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.
* * Required – High school diploma or equivalent * Required – Experience working with and maintaining confidential information including experience working in a fast-paced environmen with minimal supervision * Required – Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association * Women’s health clinical knowledge is preferred * Demonstrates skills and abilities in clinical and administrative areas including phlebotomy, office lab testing, patient care skills and EKG * Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills * Customer service-oriented attitude/behavior * Demonstrates skills and abilities in clinical and administrative areas * Ability to work with limited supervision and to make decisions based on established policies and procedures * Valid and unencumbered Louisiana driver’s license *LPN:* * Graduate of an accredited school of Practical Nursing with current license to practice as an LPN in the State of Louisiana * 3+ years’ experience in the medical field preferred *Supervisory Responsibilities* * This position has no supervisory responsibilities *Supervision Received * * Work under the supervision of the Nursing Supervisors and the general supervision of the Physicians and Nurse Practitioners.
